Where these defaults come from

  • Price $25,990: Honda 2026 Civic Sedan LX starting MSRP $24,695 + $1,295 destination, Honda 2026 Civic Sedan, checked Oct 20, 2026.
  • MPG 36: 2026 EPA rating, Civic 4Dr, 2.0L, CVT, FWD, 32 city / 41 highway / 36 combined, fueleconomy.gov 2026 Civic 4Dr, checked Oct 20, 2026.
  • Fuel $4.331/gal: EIA U.S. regular retail, week of Oct 12, 2026 ($4.331), EIA weekly gasoline prices, checked Oct 20, 2026.
  • APR is an example rate, not a quote.
  • Other defaults are example inputs so the calculator can run. They are not sourced estimates for this car.

What the default represents. The price loaded here is the 2026 Civic Sedan LX MSRP plus the manufacturer's destination charge, a planning number, not a dealer quote. The MPG is that trim's EPA combined rating. Higher trims, other drivetrains, used cars, and out-the-door prices differ. Replace the price and MPG with the figures for the car you're pricing.

Quick answer. A used Honda Civic's monthly payment depends mostly on the price of that model year, your down payment, loan term and APR. Enter those in the calculator above to see an estimate for 2015–2025 models, then add insurance, fuel and maintenance for the all-in monthly cost. Estimates, not quotes.

Honda Civic monthly payment by model year

The Year field in the calculator is a label. The price you enter is what changes the payment. A 2018 Civic and a 2021 Civic with the same price, down payment, APR, and term have the same loan payment. This page doesn't publish used-Civic prices by year. Used prices depend on mileage, trim, condition, and location, and no official source publishes them. Start from the amount you'd actually finance, then use the year tables below for what does differ by year: EPA fuel economy (which drives the fuel line) and official safety ratings.

Example payments by amount financed

Amount financed = price − down payment. The APR is the site's 6.9% example rate, not a market rate or a quote.

Amount financed 36 months 48 months 60 months 72 months
$10,000 $308/mo $239/mo $198/mo $170/mo
$15,000 $462/mo $358/mo $296/mo $255/mo
$20,000 $617/mo $478/mo $395/mo $340/mo
$25,000 $771/mo $597/mo $494/mo $425/mo

Estimates, not quotes. Loan payment only, using the calculator's standard amortizing formula and rounded to the dollar. These are planning estimates, not quotes. The amounts financed are round example inputs, not Civic market prices. Enter your own price, down payment, and APR above.

For a new Civic: Honda lists the 2026 Civic Sedan LX at $24,695 starting MSRP, plus a $1,295 destination charge, for $25,990. With $0 down, the 6.9% example APR, and 60 months, the estimated loan payment is about $513 a month. MSRP excludes tax, license, registration, destination, and accessories. Premium colors add $455, and dealer prices may vary. Source: Honda, 2026 Civic Sedan, checked Oct 20, 2026.

IIHS award criteria change from year to year, so an award in one year isn't comparable to another year's. Awards may apply only to some trims, builds, or headlights, not every version of that year's Civic. Check the IIHS page for the year and trim you're looking at. The 2027 Civic isn't on fueleconomy.gov yet. Honda lists a 32/41 city/highway rating for the 2027 Civic Sedan and 50 city/47 highway for the hybrid. Honda has not published a combined EPA figure for 2027 on that page. Source: Honda, 2027 Civic Sedan, checked Oct 20, 2026.

What MPG does to the fuel line (planning estimate): at 12,000 miles a year and EIA's U.S. average regular price for the week of Oct 12, 2026 ($4.331 a gallon, checked Oct 20, 2026), the fuel line is about $173 a month at 25 MPG, $135 at 32 MPG, $120 at 36 MPG, and $88 at 49 MPG. Your miles and local price will differ. Source: EIA weekly gasoline prices.

Before buying any used Civic, check the VIN for open safety recalls with NHTSA's recall lookup.

How much to put down on a Civic

There's no right amount for everyone, and this page doesn't recommend one. A down payment:

Example: 10% vs. 20% down on a $20,000 used Civic price (6.9% example APR). Prices are example inputs, not market prices.

Down payment Amount financed 48 months 60 months
$0 $20,000 $478/mo $395/mo
10% ($2,000) $18,000 $430/mo $356/mo
20% ($4,000) $16,000 $382/mo $316/mo

Estimates, not quotes. Loan payment only. Planning estimates, not quotes. Then check the calculator's "Loan left" line at the year you might sell, and compare it with what a Civic of that age might sell for. If the loan left is higher, you'd need cash to cover the gap.

Why the same Civic payment can cost more

Two loans can have similar payments and very different totals. On a $20,000 amount financed at the 6.9% example APR, 72 months lowers the payment to about $340 a month, compared with $395 over 60 months. But it adds a year of payments and keeps you owing more for longer. The CFPB notes that a longer loan means paying more interest over the life of the loan. Used-car loans can also carry different rates than new-car loans, so price the APR from your own offer. See what a longer loan term really costs and same payment, different cost.

All-in monthly cost

The calculator adds four lines: loan, insurance, fuel, and other (maintenance and registration ÷ 12, plus extras like parking or tolls).

For the full method, see the true cost of car ownership. To set a budget first, see how much car you can afford. To compare, run the same budget on a Toyota Corolla total cost of ownership or a Honda CR-V total cost of ownership.

Compare with another car

Run the same budget on another model to see how the all-in number changes:

Why two cars with the same payment can cost different amounts: same payment, different cost. The full method: the true cost of car ownership.

What is the true cost to own a Honda Civic?

It's the loan plus insurance, fuel, maintenance, and registration, minus what the car is worth when you sell. The calculator's "Net after resale" line estimates that for the years you keep it.
